“The heavens declare the glory of God;
    the skies proclaim the work of his hands.
Day after day they pour forth speech;
    night after night they reveal knowledge.”

—Psalm 19:1-2 (NIV)

Creation declares the glory of the Lord and daily celebrates the majesty of its King, Christ Jesus! It sings aloud its praise for us to hear; it pours forth its speech, revealing before our eyes and ears the very nature of God who created it, who created us.

Today we celebrate the savior born to us, the marvel of heaven bending down to touch earth in the birth of a baby. While we yet wait for Christ’s someday-return, we cry out, “Hallelujah!” to Emmanuel, the God Who Is Already With Us. We join all heaven and nature, singing of the joy come to the world and declaring the future coming of our King.

Fields, floods, rocks, hills, and plains repeat their sounding praise. Every day nature repeats, repeats, repeats its resounding joy. If you listen, you might just hear the mountains and hills break forth into singing before you, trees clapping their hands, rocks crying out! Oceans tell the story, birds proclaim, and the wind carries testimony of his presence with us.

Can you hear it?

“Joy to the world; the Lord is come;
Let Earth receive her King;
Let ev’ry heart prepare him room,
And heav’n and nature sing!”

—Isaac Watts (1719)
